New 2014 Continuing Education Courses

To reduce the chances of cancelling classes, it is strongly encouraged that you register with a deposit prior to 3 weeks before the start of class. These classes are held based on number of participants registered at that point, especially if the instructor is not local! Please help us in ensuring that the classes you want to attend actually happen. Register early and register often!


In an effort to maintain a “green” environment, the Cayce/Reilly School sends all invoices, receipts and class materials via email in PDF format. Students have the option to transfer the notes to an IPad, tablet, reader or laptop or print their own class notes. If a student requests the school make copies for them, for whatever reason, an additional $10 charge will apply.

Myofascial Release Massage, Part I, Upper Body

Prerequisite: Certified massage therapist, physical therapist, or occupational therapist or enrolled as a student in one of the above training programs.

In this workshop you will learn to identify, manipulate, and release myofascial tissue that holds chronic, painful, and exhausting stress and tension. In addition, you will gain an understanding of the relationship between posture and emotional attitudes and how constricted myofascial tissue leads to creating and reinforcing emotional negativity. By the end of the workshop you will know how to release this unwanted stress in the chest, neck, shoulders, hands, back and waist, in other words, over the whole upper body. This workshop, taken with the Myofascial Release Massage Part II, Lower Body, will enable you to offer a complete head-to-toe Myofascial Release Massage as well as work on specific problem areas. The hand, neck, and shoulder work is suitable for on-site application as well as clinical practice. We will discuss the conditions and occupations that will benefit most from this work. This workshop is the first of four leading to certification in Dr. Vodder’s Manual Lymph Drainage/Combined Decongestive Therapy (MLD ®). It is an intensive workshop involving extensive hands on work. Students learn the basic strokes and their application to each body part. The theory includes anatomy and physiology of the lymph vessel system as well as effects of MLD. Cranial/sacral Release Therapy is a gentle hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the function of the cranial/sacral system. This therapy enhances the body’s natural healing processes to improve the operation of the central nervous system, dissipate the negative effects of stress, enhance health and strengthen resistance to disease. During this 20-hour course, the benefits of Cranial/sacral Release Therapy will be covered, along with the basic techniques you can use in your practice and for your own health. You will learn a protocol that you can take to your table and begin using right away.

This workshop focuses on how to work with people in pain. If you change your structure you change your life. Learn how to look at the body as a whole and how to shift the structure of the body to alleviate pain. You will also learn how to make an assessment, gait analysis, and how you work with that to change structure. Focus on working with neck pain and lower back pain, working the front of the body to affect the back of the body as well as working on the back of the body. There is a strong focus on trigger point work. Basic principles of specific injury situations are covered emphasizing the role of the massage therapist.

If you would like to learn how to incorporate Aromatherapy into your daily life, both at home and in the work environment, this is the course for you. You will receive an introduction to uses of Aromatherapy, as well as the application of at least 12 Essential Oils, including safety guidelines, healing properties and making Aromatherapy products that you will be able to take home.
Note: Please bring medium glass bowl for mixing and a jar for bath salts.

The beginning level one Day-Break Geriatric workshop focuses on the robust to age-appropriate senior and covers the following topics:
  • Physiological, psychological and sociological aspects of aging.
  • Client assessment with cautions and contraindications.
  • This modality teaches specific techniques to address each client’s distinct needs from robust to frail seniors. Participants are encouraged to develop clinical reasoning.
  • Practical hands-on work with senior volunteers
How to establish a geriatric massage practice. Topics include:
  • marketing to senior facilities
  • referral sources and active seniors in the community.

Geriatric massage increases circulation, stimulates the nervous system, relaxes the mind and softens hardened muscle and connective tissues by increasing the blood supply to affected areas.

Reiki Master Certification Workshop

Has your Reiki practice called you to become a Reiki Master? Whether for your own personal growth or from a deep knowing that you hope to share the gift of Reiki training with others, becoming a Reiki Master is truly life changing. We warmly welcome all those who are certified through Reiki IIIa/Advanced Reiki Training (in-person courses only, please) to join us for this course in Reiki Mastership. You will leave this workshop as a Reiki Master with a full set of knowledge and skills available to you should you wish to go on to become a Reiki Master Teacher.

 Myofasical constrictions in the lower body are just as enervating as they are elsewhere in the body, distorting the way people stand, walk and move.  This workshop builds on what you learned in the Upper Body Course so that you are able to offer your clients a complete head-to-toe Myofascial Release Massage.  By the end of this course, you feel the difference that Myofascial Release Massage makes to the lower body alone, as well as the difference the upper body-and-lower-body work make to the entire body.  Feel more relaxed, grounded and graceful.

In this course, you will be provided with the principles of breathing to restore balance in the body and to enhance the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of the whole being. Experience a progressive sequence of self-sensing exercises that can reveal deeply seated and often unconscious feelings, bringing clarity and awareness to your breathing patterns. You will also learn how to modify the breath as a means to manage stress and to induce a deep state of relaxation. The emphasis is on bringing awareness to the subtle energies of the breath using a combination of yoga, conscious breathing, and meditation.

Aromatherapy II will go deeper into theory, botany and chemistry of essential oils, the body systems (with focus on the integumentary, nervous and respiratory systems), and how essential oils can affect them. Treatment charts, blends for specific conditions, client interview and assessment are some of the topics that will be covered. You will learn how to make Massage Candles and applications such as body wraps, balms and body butters will be covered, as well!
