Video Clips of The Bimini Road and Andros Platform

Manmade or Natural Formations?

Below is a link to a Quicktime video file of late 2004 video footage of The Bimini Road and Andros Platform. The late 2004 footage of both formations was taken after the areas were both hit by a series of hurricanes. The internet viewable file is 16 minutes long. If you have a slow modum it may take a few minutes for your Quicktime plugin to buffer. In addition, with the large number of peope accessing the file, the wait may be somewhat long. Simply click on the Quicktime link below and the movie will play automatically after it buffers. We have added licensed music to the entire movie to make it more enjoyable. There is no narration but titles introduce each location. Reproduction, downloading, or reuse of the music is prohibited. All of the video is copyrighted and reuse or reproduction is prohibited. If you are interested in using footage for a project, send an email to the ARE.

As you will see in the footage, the Bimini Road and the associated features truly appear manmade. We now believe that we have evidence indicating that the formation was a portion of a harbor.

Footage from the Andros Platform includes that taken in 2003 and 2004 over 6 trips. We are certain that the Andros Platform was an ancient harbor construction. You will see that on a mid-2004 trip to Andros, we filmed what looked like a set of steps leading to the second tier of the three-tiered structure. We have also found at least 6 toolmarks on stones forming the flat tops of the tiers. We also found a deep channel cut through the bedrock into the now-65-foot-deep harbor inside the platform. In essence, both the Bimini Road and Andros Platform are identical in size, configuration, and characteristics (channels, quays, piers, moles, breakwaters) to ancient Mediterranean harbors. The Mediterranean harbors, which saw their earliest construction about 6,000-years ago, were made from cut beachrock. We hope you enjoy what will probably be the most underwater footage of Bimini and Andros you have or will ever see.
