Edgar Cayce’s A.R.E. Volunteers to Help WHRO Membership Drive

Virginia Beach, Va. – About a dozen staff members from Edgar Cayce’s A.R.E. have volunteered to assist WHRO, Hampton Roads’ public television station, during its fall membership drive. The A.R.E. group will be answering telephones and taking pledges Tuesday, September 14, 2010, from 7-10 p.m., during the airing of The Blue Man Group. A.R.E.’s marketing director, Jennie Taylor Martin, stated that, “Most A.R.E. staff members are supporters of WHRO and WHRV. We had so many people interested in volunteering, we had to turn some away.” Edgar Cayce’s A.R.E. is known for helping in its local community, as it regularly participates in the local Race for the Cure and other events. In 2007, A.R.E. was recognized for raising funds for the local United Way.

Service to others is a major component of the Cayce work. In addition to the regular staff, about 200 people donate their time and energy as volunteers at A.R.E. Headquarters. “The work of the A.R.E. simply could not go on, as we do it today, without them,” Volunteer Coordinator Sherry Kulakowski said. Participating in events like the WHRO fundraiser are a way for the A.R.E. staff to “pay it forward,” Martin added.

Two Practitioners Win 2010 Readers Choice Awards

Virginia Beach, Va. – The A.R.E. Health Center and Spa and two of its individual practitioners won 2010 Readers Choice Awards from The Health Journal, a regional health and wellness publication in Southeastern Virginia. Dr. Peter Schoeb, a chiropractor, and Daniel Johnson, an acupuncturist, received the most votes in their respective categories from a survey of The Health Journal readers, while the Spa itself won the “Best Spa and Massage” category. The Readers Choice Awards were published in the July 2010 Southside edition of The Health Journal, available in the online archive at thehealthjournals.com.

Peter Schoeb, DC, CMT, became a Doctor of Chiropractic in 1995 and holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology. He studied naturopathy and nutrition in Europe, graduated from massage school in Switzerland in 1981 and, in 1983, trained with Dr. Harold Reilly in the Cayce/Reilly massage and therapies. He taught for 13 years at massage schools, eight years at a chiropractic college, and the past six at the Cayce/Reilly® School of Massotherapy in Virginia Beach. A student of the Edgar Cayce Readings for over 30 years, he is an internationally known presenter of holistic health-related topics.

Daniel J. Johnson, MAOM, Lac, graduated from the Academy of Oriental Medicine in Austin as a Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. He has studied in China and with many Japanese master practitioners. Integrating Asian bodywork (Zen shiatsu and Tuina), herbs and acupuncture, he creates personalized, holistic treatments addressing the individual patient's needs. He also teaches at the Cayce/Reilly School.

to Be Featured this Wednesday on Chasing Mummies

Virginia Beach, Va. – The mysterious cave complex under the Giza Plateau, lost for decades before being rediscovered by explorer and 4th Dimension Press author Andrew Collins in 2008, will be featured Wednesday, September 1, on The History Channel series Chasing Mummies starring Dr. Zahi Hawass, Egypt’s head archaeologist. According to the network’s Web site, the episode (number seven) titled “Bats” features Dr. Hawass leading a team into these caverns to attempt to disprove the theory that there is a secret passage that connects to the Sphinx. This is the first time these caves have been publicly acknowledged and explored since they were found.

Annual Edgar Cayce’s A.R.E. Membership Congress to Focus on Service

Virginia Beach, Va. – Join Edgar Cayce’s A.R.E. for Offering Service to the World, its 79th annual A.R.E. Membership Congress, June 22-25. A.R.E. Congress is a time when A.R.E. members get a chance to reconnect with each other and non-members have an opportunity to learn about the Edgar Cayce work through a series of workshops, social gatherings, and staff presentations. There is an optional pre-Congress service project on June 21.

Participants have a wide variety of workshops to choose from, including Serving with Spirit, Healing Prayer and Hands-On Healing, and Purification, Enlightenment, and Service in Ancient Egypt. The week includes traditional favorites such as a welcoming picnic, talent show, social, and auction. A Teen Retreat option is available for ages 13-17 during this week, and there will be a Young Adult Retreat (ages 18-30) the weekend following A.R.E. Congress, June 25-27.

Acclaimed Parapsychologists to Accept Key Roles at Atlantic University

Virginia Beach, Va.--The Executive Director and CEO of the Edgar Cayce work, Kevin Todeschi, announced today that, due to the generosity of Don de Laski and the de Laski Family Foundation, Atlantic University (AU) has made two key appointments to the university: Nancy Zingrone, Ph.D., and Carlos Alvarado, Ph.D. The husband and wife team have extensive backgrounds in parapsychology, transpersonal psychology, psychiatric research, perceptual studies, and published research papers.

Nancy Zingrone has been appointed Academic Affairs Director for the university and will be responsible for curriculum development, online education, the continuing education program, and faculty and staff oversight. Carlos Alvarado has been appointed Scholar in Residence and will be responsible for academic research, grant proposals, and online outreach into Latin America. The couple will also pursue the creation of an online master’s degree in parapsychology for the university.

Both Zingrone and Alvarado have Ph.D.’s in psychology from the University of Edinburgh, and both have extensive research and teaching experience with the University of Virginia, the Foundation for Research on the Nature of Man (now Rhine Research Center), and the Parapsychological Foundation. Local Hampton Roads Students Graduate from
the Cayce/Reilly® School of Massotherapy

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA - Fifteen local Hampton Roads students graduated from the Cayce/Reilly® School of Massotherapy on Sunday, April 18. These students each received a 700-hour diploma for massage therapy, which allows them to practice as certified massage therapists. This graduating class included Margaret Aguero and Rylee Boone of Newport News, Va.; Alexandra Austin, Lori Braithwaite, John Campbell, Lauren Chambers, Mary Jane Darling, Leslie Eddington, and Diane McKeon of Virginia Beach, Va.; Kathleen Butler, Christa Donnelly, Rebecca Hendershot, and Courtney Miller of Chesapeake, Va.; and Sonia Schmitt and Jennifer Spencer of Norfolk, Va.

With more than 20 years’ experience training massage therapists, the Cayce/Reilly School of Massotherapy is the only school that teaches the entire holistic wellness model found in the Edgar Cayce material. Classes for the 700-hour program, taken over just eight months, begin in January, April, and September of each year. Part-time and evening classes are also available, and continuing education courses are offered for therapists to maintain licenses and certifications. The school is approved for Veterans Administration benefits, and federal financial aid is available to those who qualify. A 1,000-hour diploma is also available, with additional coursework in complementary healing modalities.

The school’s mission is to offer a quality comprehensive education in both the art and science of massage therapy. The Cayce/Reilly School was formed in 1967 as part of Edgar Cayce’s Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.) by Executive Director Hugh Lynn Cayce and Dr. Harold J. Reilly, a well-known physiotherapist. Dr. Reilly developed the Cayce/Reilly technique from a combination of his personal techniques and methods recommended in the Edgar Cayce material. In 1987 the school was officially recognized as a separate entity by the Virginia Board of Education and was named the Harold J. Reilly School of Massotherapy. Fundraising Yard Sale for A.R.E.’s Youth and Family Department Announced

Virginia Beach, Va. – The Youth and Family Department at Edgar Cayce’s A.R.E. is holding a fundraising Yard Sale May 7-8, from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., at 2287 Landstown Rd. in Virginia Beach.

The Youth and Family Department conducts events for youth, young adults, and families throughout the year, including spring break and summer day camps, workshops and retreats, and “parents’ nights out.” These programs are deeply grounded in the Edgar Cayce materials, and give youth significant opportunities to learn and play in nature, explore creativity, and develop a sense of self and community. They also typically perform charity work; in 2008 the summer day camp (ages 5-12) won a philanthropy award for their efforts in raising money for the Virginia Beach SPCA through a bake sale, lemonade stand, and other events.

Money raised through this yard sale will go toward the purchase of a 15-passenger van for the department, which would initially be used to transport participants in their current youth programs. Over time, acquiring a van will also allow the department to increase its outreach into the community-at-large by doing off-campus service projects and to help provide opportunities for at-risk youth to participate in the program. Weeklong Wellness and Holistic Health Retreat at Edgar Cayce’s A.R.E. Sold Out

Virginia Beach, Va. – Edgar Cayce’s A.R.E. announces that its annual Wellness and Rejuvenation Intensive, May 1-7, has sold out. The only health and wellness retreat that is fully based on the work of Edgar Cayce, who is generally considered the “father of holistic medicine,” this all-inclusive retreat re-creates the experience that he envisioned for the old Cayce Hospital. Attendees in this limited-enrollment retreat receive six nights’ lodging near the A.R.E. and Atlantic Ocean and meals based on the Cayce diet provided by an in-home cook. Each participant also receives two Cayce/Reilly® massages, two steam treatments, and one colonic irrigation, plus a sand pack treatment on the Atlantic Ocean beach (weather permitting). Virginia Beach, Va –The annual Hypnotherapy Training and Certification program, April 19-24, at Edgar Cayce’s A.R.E. has sold out for the fifth consecutive year. Dr. Allen Chips and Dee Chips lead this hands-on, intensive training that is designed to benefit both entry-level students and seasoned professionals, and culminates in National Association of Transpersonal Hypnotherapists (NATH) certification. This course is also approved through Atlantic University for up to 32.75 contact hours or 3.3 academic continuing education units.

Dating back to ancient times, hypnosis has proven itself an effective therapeutic tool. Since its 1958 endorsement by the American Medical Association (AMA), there has been tremendous growth in its methods, applications, and acceptance. This well-established course trains attendees in techniques that induce these deeper states of consciousness and shows how to use them safely and ethically to help others. Virginia Beach, Va. – Join Edgar Cayce’s A.R.E. for its conference and workshop, Bioenergy: A Therapeutic Healing Art Hands-On Training, April 30-May 2. Bioenergy may be viewed as the energy of life; a force that surrounds every cell, providing a blueprint for the physical body while also serving as a medium for the flow of information throughout the body. Expert bioenergy therapy trainers Mietek and Margaret Wirkus, assisted by their top student/teaching assistant Laura Mead, lead this experiential workshop that is designed for those who want to learn self-healing primarily and healing others secondarily. Virginia Beach, Va. – Atlantic University (AU) was recently approved by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) as a continuing education (CE) provider. Three online programs are now available for those who require CE credits for ongoing licensure. The courses offered and their CE credits are:

Incorporating Effective Dream Work into Counseling Practice (5.75 CE credits) – Dream analysis appears to deepen and accelerate the psychotherapeutic process but is not widely employed in contemporary practice today. This course presents a view of dreaming as an interactive process between the dreamer and the dream’s imagery, and the dream outcome as a co-creative experience that contains qualities valued in contemporary psychotherapy: self-awareness, volition, and a sense of personal responsibility.

Incorporating Informed Love into Your Counseling Practice (3.0 CE credits) – Informed Love is a curative factor found in anecdotal stories of encounters with personifications of a higher power and is defined as the twofold experience of feeling completely loved and completely known. This course explores the difference between informed love and unconditional positive regard and the implications of informed love in modern psychotherapy practice.

Balancing Transpersonal Perspectives in Counseling with Conventional Ethical Requirements (3.0 CE credits) – Relationship triangles often have a negative connotation but can also serve a progressive, transitional role in relationships. This course examines these progressive triangles in Eastern and Western spiritual traditions and suggests that triangles composed of the seeker, the mediator, and a higher power are common to both traditions. The implications of progressive triangulation and teleological transference (in which a seeker’s spiritual aspirations are projected onto a mediator who provides support and direction) in contemporary practice are discussed.

Gregory Scott Sparrow, PhD, is the instructor for each of these courses. In addition to being an Atlantic University faculty member, he is an assistant professor of educational psychology at the University of Texas-Pan American and a psychotherapist who has authored several books in the field of visionary experiences and dreams. Virginia Beach, Va. – Parents can take a break from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season with the first annual Parent’s Day Out and Open House at Edgar Cayce’s A.R.E. Join us Saturday, December 5, 2009, from 11 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., to celebrate our fourth year of programs for kids ages 5 to 12. This free program, based on the information and ideas in the psychic readings of Edgar Cayce, will include a variety of body-mind-spirit experiences for kids including our Energy Express workshop, arts and crafts celebrating holiday traditions throughout the world, and special guest Peter Woodbury as Edgar Cayce, reading The Christmas Story.

Parents are invited to visit A.R.E. and meet Youth and Family Staff while learning about the unique programs available at A.R.E. Virginia Beach, Va. – The nonprofit organization founded by Edgar Cayce in 1931 is growing ever more modern in its use of online marketing tools with pages and profiles on social networking sites such as Facebook, twitter, and Ning; more than 60 videos on its own YouTube channel, and now an expansion onto eBay using the MissionFish nonprofit giving partnership called eBay Giving Works!

“Edgar Cayce always said to ‘reach people where they are,’” says A.R.E.’s marketing director, Jennie Taylor Martin. “And that’s exactly what we’re trying to do. In today’s world, people of all ages and backgrounds are finding content, socializing, and supporting their causes online. We want to be there when our supporters come looking for us.”

Martin commented that one of the organization’s YouTube videos has received 160,000 views, something that not only brings values to the viewers but doesn’t cost the organization a dime. “There are so many new ways for us to reach out into a world that is growing in its interest of a body-mind-spirit nature.” One of those ways is through eBay. Martin points out that eBay has 309 million registered users worldwide. “And we believe many of our supporters could be amongst those users.” The eBay Giving Works! Program offers them an easy way to support their cause, and it also offers us an opportunity to reach out to others.

Did Famed Psychic Edgar Cayce Once Locate Amelia Earhart?

Virginia Beach, Va. – More than 70 years ago, a young female pilot by the name of Amelia
Earhart captured the imagination of much of the world by becoming an aviation pioneer and
excelling in a field that had once been limited to only men. Because of her charisma and her
courage in breaking down barriers, she became an inspiration to countless individuals. Her
story—now brought to the big screen with Hilary Swank in the starring role—will undoubtedly
once again inspire and capture the imaginations of thousands. What may not be so well
known is that famed psychic Edgar Cayce was asked to locate her three days after her
disappearance.

On July 5, 1937, a member of Edgar Cayce’s A.R.E. who was also a professional astrologer
and an acquaintance of George Putnam (Earhart’s husband), requested a reading to help
locate Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan. As soon as the sleeping Cayce began the reading he
noted that conditions for Earhart and Noonan were “rather serious” but that both were still
alive. Cayce suggested that the two could be found if a ship followed the reef that extended
from Howland Island in a northwesterly direction for approximately 100 miles. When Cayce
was asked, “What is the present condition of Amelia Earhart and her companion [George
Noonan]?” the reply came: “Amelia Earhart … [is] much better than the companion; for the
companion has been panicky…”

When asked about the condition of the plane, Cayce replied that it was no longer flyable: “It
is broken up somewhat, but this as we find is more from the attempt in the landing when
gas was gone than from anything else; though to be sure, the winds and the inability to
stabilize same has made all very out of order; not able to proceed even with gas.”

In terms of their supplies, Cayce stated that there was “mighty little” of either food or water.
When asked about their chances for recovery, Cayce replied that the conditions were
growing worse all the time but that, because of rescue attempts already set in motion, the
best possibility for recovery would be by the next morning, provided rescue attempts
continued along the same path “in the right direction.”

For weeks, a fleet of planes scoured the area looking for any signs of the aircraft without
success. Finally, on July 18, 1937, the search was called off. It was feared that Noonan and
Earhart had perished and lay somewhere beneath the Pacific.

A follow-up reading was given on August 1, 1937. Cayce immediately responded with the
fact that it was too late. He stated that Earhart had lasted until July 21, 1937, before
succumbing to the elements. Apparently Noonan had died earlier, as the sleeping Cayce
noted that Earhart perished alone. In an attempt to pin-point the location of the body with a
little more accuracy and offer what help he could to Putnam, Cayce added that her body was
located “between eighty-nine and ninety miles northwest from her intended destination” …
[of] Howland Island.

Whether or not Edgar Cayce had accurately tuned into Amelia Earhart, her location, and her

Zahi Hawass Debates New Discovery in Egypt!

Before it has even been released, the newest book by author and explorer Andrew Collins, Beneath the Pyramids, continues to be the source of a controversy amongst Egyptian scholars, including Dr. Zahi Hawass, Secretary General of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities. The subject of the debate is a subterranean network of chambers and passageways beneath the Giza plateau. Beneath the Pyramids recounts Collins work with Egyptology researcher Nigel Skinner-Simpson finding the entrance and exploring the massive caves.

The underground passages, discovered by Henry Salt, British Consul General in Egypt, and Italian explorer Giovanni Caviglia in 1817, included an underground tunnel of “several hundred yards” which opened to a spacious chamber that communicated with three others, from which went “labyrinthick” passages, one of which was later investigated by Caviglia for a distance of “300 feet further.” Although of natural origin, there are hints that some parts of this subterranean network of chambers and tunnels are man-made, and stretch beneath the plateau on which the Pyramids are located.

The tomb in question was not connected with Salt and Caviglia's own exploration until Nigel Skinner-Simpson examined Salt's memoirs following their publication in 2007. Using Salt's plan of the plateau and the British diplomat's written account of his investigations on the plateau, Skinner-Simpson worked out the entrance to the lost catacombs. The editors of the newly-published memoir, Patricia Usick and Deborah Manley, had wrongly concluded that they were to be found in cemetery G1600, some distance away from the site identified by Skinner-Simpson as the Tomb of the Birds in the northern face of the plateau’s Moqattam formation.

Collins and his team re-discovered the entrance into what could only be Salt and Caviglia's cave tunnels. These were explored for an estimated distance of 90 meters (300 feet), before they were forced to give up due to bad air and a lack of proper breathing equipment.

In a blog posted on his Web site, Dr Hawass states that "there is no underground cave complex at this site" and that Collins simply got confused inside the maze-like tomb.

Yet Collins is adamant that his discoveries are real. “The tomb is relative simple in design. In addition to this, our library of pictures taken inside the caves makes it clear that they are natural in origin, and were carved out by the actions of water tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of years ago. Moreover, Salt’s memoirs record that he and Caviglia traveled through these same caves for a distance of ‘several hundred yards,’ and never even reached the end.”

In the light of all the recent publicity in the cave discoveries, Collins and Skinner-Simpson are now working with the Egyptological community in the hope of throwing further light on the tomb and caves, which continue to be a complete mystery.

Collins believes it possible that the passages form part of an interconnected cave system identified by ground-penetrating radar in the eastern part of the plateau. He further states, “It is my suspicion that the underlying northwest-southeast orientation of the plateau's Moqattam formation will have directed them into the vicinity of the Second Pyramid, where the four chambers Salt and Caviglia entered, along with the "labyrinthick" passages that continued into the darkness, might still await discovery.”

Collins also hopes that his discovery can throw new light on a secret chamber said to exist at Giza in ancient Egyptian texts, and known as the “Tomb of God,” or “Underworld of the Soul”, a structure more popularly known today as the “Hall of Records.” Collins tells the story of his discovery in a new book due out this fall titled Beneath the Pyramids and published by 4th Dimension Press (an imprint of A.R.E.
