Planetary Cycles for Spring

By Nicholas Theo

lotus-flowerSpring is a time to welcome renewed growth and activity. The strengthening sun animates long-dormant life, and it reminds us that, in truth, life is eternal. Cayce viewed astrology as a tool that gave us that continual connection to spirit so that we could achieve our goals that our soul chose to experience. He reminded us about maintaining that larger perspective:

“Also it is true that the earthly or earth’s sojourn is only a portion of the solar realm in which the soul finds self as an experience of a day in the earth’s sojourn.”
~ Edgar Cayce reading 553-1

Astrology and BookHere we are reminded to view our activities and goals from the deeper soul’s perspective. Thus, our current life is like one pearl on a necklace strand. The silk thread is the connecting experience of the soul while the pearl is the substance manifested by our reactions to the events of that specific life. If we then look at it from this level, we can choose how we want the pearl that is our current life to appear as it sits alongside our other pearls.

This March we saw the final of seven exact matches in the running square between Uranus and Pluto that we experienced over the last few years. This square will define these last years just as the 1965-68 Uranus-Pluto conjunction was the defining energy for the 1960s—a decade of rapid social change and upheaval; and Saturn’s opposition to Pluto in 1931-33 defined the Depression and the rise of Fascism. On a broad level, the energy from the Uranus-Pluto square brought into sharper relief the gulf between political and social belief systems. The greater noise and acrimony that volleyed through the media and politics forced us to find our own truth from within. However, more importantly, and on a personal level, many individuals experienced life-altering changes through external and frequently unexpected circumstances that brought trauma through the loss of home, health, relationship, or status.

Now that the greatest intensity of this energy is past, we live our lives in a new energy space. On a mundane level, these last few years were difficult, so we were forced to find a new peace and balance from within. Therefore, although the most challenging parts are behind us, this new space requires some time for us to get used to it. Yet, we must move forward. Absence of doubt is a rare companion on the journey to follow your own inner direction. In one fairly long reading about astrology and sunspots, Cayce used the final part of the reading to express some eloquent spiritual thoughts. At the end of the reading he said, “Let not your hearts be troubled; ye believe in God. Then just act like it—to others.” (5757-1) Cayce reminded us that even when we have inner questions and doubts, in order to remain in the universal flow of life, we must move forward.

people helpingCayce repeatedly stated the value of astrology. The cycles of the planets within our solar system reflect the many patterns we experience in life. In the last few years, one of those planetary cycles challenged us to step away from a pattern we no longer needed, and move into a new sense of self-awareness. Cayce explained: “The more ye become aware of thy relationships to the universe and those influences that control same, the greater the ability to help, to aid—the greater thy ability to rely upon the God-force within; but still greater thy responsibility to thy fellow men. For, as ye do it unto the least, ye do it unto thy Maker—even as to the Sun which reflects those turmoils that arise with thee; even as the earthquake, even as wars and hates, even as the influences in thy life day by day.” (5757-1)

Therefore, just as the spring energy renews nature, you can use its energy to renew ties and reach out to other people. The personal events that fell under the Pluto-Uranus square may have upended your life, or the life of a friend, family member, or a neighbor. In fact, you or they may still be in a muddle, and that is okay. However, the important thing to do now is to bridge links of support and encouragement as Cayce put it, “… ye believe in God. Then just act like it—to others.” Acting in the spirit of personal kindness and support is the antidote for these times, and if each one of us sows these seeds about us, this sustaining energy will take root, and then bring more balance to our world.

Major Astrological Influences for 2015

Major Astrological Influences for 2015
By Nicholas Theo

As we enter the final weeks of 2014, many of us are wondering what is in store for us in 2015. In 2014, we saw the peak of a multi-year (2012-15) Grand Cross anchored by a Pluto in Capricorn squaring Uranus in Aries. This square picks up on some themes from the 1960s when, in 1965-67, a Pluto and Uranus conjunction ushered in a period of rapid social change. Consequently, we are living through a time of rapid change. In 2008, when Pluto entered Capricorn, its transformative energy exposed an imbalanced world economy, so when we add the energy of the square, an aspect of inner tension propelling towards change, it is not only the structure that shifted, but it is also a time of involuntary stretching and growth. We feel a sense of uncertainty from a crowding of ominous news events while in contrast, there are some areas that are seemingly stuck.

What is in store for 2015?
What is in store for in 2015?

On a more personal level, this energy broke down routine patterns in our lives though job losses and health problems. December 15 and March 16 bring the final two exact squares of Uranus and Pluto, so we are on the downside of the force of its energy; and as we progress through 2015, we will see an easing of this tension. The lesson of that energy in the past three years was for us to find our grounding from within. Remember, permanent security is not found in external circumstance but through connecting with our divine source from within. Although seemingly traumatic, many of the changes we went through were guiding us away from experiences no longer needed, no matter how comfortable, and bringing us into new spaces that challenge our growth and help us better define our true purpose and creative intent.

While Neptune ambles along in its home sign of Pisces in 2015, Saturn enters Sagittarius shortly before the New Year. With the exception of June 16 to September 17, when Saturn moves temporarily back into Scorpio, its focal energies turn toward higher education, law, publishing, and spiritual beliefs. In the next two years, we will see more news stories about challenges to the structure of college education and the best methods to train the workforce. Some debates should arise on civil and international law in 2015, while religious groups take a deeper look at their core beliefs. This may lead to splits, or the threat of splits, within these groups. The publishing industry also should go through reorganization and further adjustments.

zodiac-2015In 2015, Jupiter transits through Leo until August 11, when it moves into Virgo. This planet of expansion shines on Leo, which ignites our creativity before it shifts its energy into Virgo, thus the latter part of the year will find the focus is on more technical and down-to-earth things. Don’t be too surprised to see some announcements on breakthroughs in medicine and technology. More specifically, there may be new studies coming out about the body, mind, and spirit connection to illness as well as “future” technologies that are quickly adapted into the regular routine of daily living.

Eclipse seasons in 2015 will occur near the spring and autumn equinoxes. Eclipses tend to bring situations to a head for people who have a planet located immediately on or in opposition to an eclipse. On March 20, a solar eclipse occurs in the very last moments of Pisces just hours before the vernal equinox, while a lunar eclipse on April 4 falls in mid-Libra. Then the next solar eclipse occurs on September 13 at 20 degrees Virgo, and a lunar eclipse at 4 degrees Aries on September 27 rounds out the year.

Whenever a planet moves retrograde, it is a time for inner listening and reflection. The most well-known retrograde cycle is of Mercury. In 2015, Mercury goes retrograde three times: January 22 to February 11; May 18 to June 11; and September 17 to October 9. During these dates, just stop, look, and listen. Frequently, Mercury retrograde brings insights and new information that is helpful to your decision-making, thus the advice to hold still and wait. Once Mercury moves direct, you can use this new information to your advantage.

It is vital to remember that the planets do not cause events, nor are you helpless as the planets move through their regular cycles. Although your personal circumstances may be troubled from the recent events, know that these energies cleared away what was no longer necessary. Go within, and let your meditations, prayers, and dreams guide you towards your best outcome. Each of us has a divine connection to the living source of God.

Cayce Astrology as a Tool for Self-Understanding

Cayce Astrology as a Tool
for Self-Understanding
By Nicholas Theo

When the Edgar Cayce readings spoke about astrology, the view was far different than those of traditional astrologers who saw astrology as a method only used to describe fixed traits and destinies. It is only in the past 20 years that the greater astrology community has caught up with Cayce’s perspective. Cayce explained how astrology could be used as a tool to gain self-understanding. His view of astrology was that its goal was for us to gain soul growth from understanding the use and direction of our free will in expressing our drives, goals, and energies.

Astrology is a way for us to see that we are an integral part of the ecosystem within our solar system. In 1936, in a life reading for a woman from Canada, Cayce clearly explained astrology’s objective in relation to our own soul experience, “Considering then life, a soul, an entity as a continuous stream of experience—and the activities in the earth's plane as a lesson that is learned by the entity—the experiences through the astrological sojourns become rather as a digesting or an assimilating of that which has been experienced or gained in the lesson.” (Edgar Cayce reading 1230-1)

An astrological birth chart then becomes a useful and active tool of learning and guidance when an astrologer interprets the chart from this vantage point. An astrologer trained in this method offers others a reason and a goal for understanding their life purpose. A trait of short-temperedness shown by a planetary aspect from Mars to Uranus, for example, as seen from this perspective gives the native an insight on why their soul chose this energy to experience, and from that conscious realization, they then have an active role in deciding how to work with anger in their current life. Through exercising free will this individual may choose to consciously work on directing their anger into productive channels, or may decide to do nothing at all, and thus meet the events of daily life with ever a short temper.

Cayce consistently reiterated that we control our own destiny because of free will. In one of the first readings Cayce gave on the subject of astrology in 1923, he stated: “…but let it be understood here, no action of any planet or phases of the Sun, the Moon or any heavenly bodies surpass the rule of man’s will power, the power given by the Creator of man, in the beginning, when he became a living soul, with the power of choosing for himself.” (Edgar Cayce reading 3744-3) It is within this statement that Cayce presents us with the blueprint of our existence: when we choose to live actively self-aware, we acknowledge our relationship with the Creator, and consequently we approach our potential for the expression of our creativity and will.

DirectionReflecting Cayce’s view on astrology, in recent years there is an ever widening circle of astrologers whose focus is to ensure that an astrological chart is interpreted from the understanding that the human soul is eternal, and thus the current life is but a chapter within its experience, and that the soul exercises free will. Astrology is a language of the subconscious mind where its symbols reflect the tendencies and drives of the person, but it is in no way rigid and fatalistic in its interpretation. British therapist and astrologer Mark Jones eloquently states this in, Healing the Soul, “The natal chart is not a cage from which we must be released. It is not a reality imposed upon us from without. The natal chart is the symbolic expression of the infinite field as it has been translated into human form and it is the expression of our karmic potentiality as held within that field. That potentiality emerges from the nature of who we really are.”

When you choose to use your astrology chart as a means for self-discovery, make sure that the astrologer reading your birth chart adheres to the two basic principles that Cayce instructed us on astrology: a guide for soul growth and free will choice. In the weeks after the reading, allow time for your insights and understanding to surface into your consciousness. Take the information and guidance from your chart analysis, and then actively apply it to your life.
