Have you had experiences with distance-learning for continuing education?

Atlantic University is doing a feasibility study on opening a new dimension of its educational outreach – continuing education courses for professionals. Many professional disciplines require that their licensed members take continuing education on a regular basis. Rules vary from state to state and from discipline to discipline, but more and more there is an openness to distance-learning as an acceptable method for continuing education. With Atlantic University’s commitment to distance-education, we are looking for matches between Atlantic University’s core material and what may be of interest to professionals seeking Continuing Education units.

Here is how you can potentially help. If you are in a professional discipline that requires CE’s or CEU’s on a regular basis, please tell us about how you have gone about meeting your requirements. Have you had experiences with distance-learning for continuing education? Even if you have not, what kind of format and course-length would be most appealing for you to do from the convenience of your own home or office? We would be especially interested in knowing ways that you think that Atlantic University’s core subject matter – that is, consciousness, holistic health, creativity, intuition, dreams and meditation, etc. – might potentially fit into a course that you and your colleague would be interested in taking.

Residential Course Schedule

Students often report that a residential course makes a highly enriching and inspiring part of their total Atlantic University experience. Atlantic University is primarily a distance-learning school, and a majority of courses must be taken through that format. But for those students who wish to have face-to-face learning experiences with faculty members and other students, a variety of options are offered each year in Virginia Beach as well as other locations within Virginia. Many of the residential courses are offered as weekend classes, or as five-day intensives.

The following is a schedule of our upcoming residential courses, available to all for non-credit Continuing Education or Graduate credit. (Residential courses taken for Graduate credit also require some follow-up distance learning work.)

For courses offered at the Big House in Rural Retreat Virginia, driving directions are available. Flight arrangements should be made to Roanoke, VA and a shuttle service is available between Roanoke and the Big House or the ARE Camp. For information about housing fees and shuttle fees, and photographs of the Big House near the ARE Camp please see the following web page: http://www.creativespirit.net/bighouse/

Mark Thurston, Ph.D.
Meditation has long been a tool of spiritually centered people. It offers a connection to a higher power, and it awakens a calming, harmonizing influence. The positive habit of a regular meditation session may be more within our reach than many people have thought. This course provides for study and practice of a variety of meditation methods, designed first for personal application and testing by the student, and second for teaching and presentation to others. An in-depth examination of the Cayce material on meditation will be a central aspect of the course, but teachings from Buddhism, Taoism, and other schools of thought will also be included.
