Here's my dream - Three years ago I dreamt that I was in an old, crumbling villa, maybe in France or Spain. I was a young man (in real life I am female), and wore a red uniform. I was with another man who was also wearing the uniform, and the villa was full of men in that same uniform. The villa had been very elegant once but now it was dilapidated and a lot of the rooms had no furniture except camp beds the men had brought. We walked rapidly through narrow passages, and all the men we met seemed terrified. I got a great sense of dread, and that we needed to hide. We looked into a room, and a man was keeled over on the bed. I knew he was dead. We saw many men like this - it was as if they had been caught by surprise. I knew they had been murdered. I was angry but at the same time knew that this was to be expected. At one point we went out onto a balcony and looked out on an overgrown courtyard garden where men were hiding. All this came flooding back because I recently wrote a short story, which won first prize in a big competition. My mother asked me where I had got the inspiration and I realized that the villa I set the story in was, in my mind, exactly like the one in my dream. One scene had the protagonists - two young girls - standing on a balcony and looking at the very same garden I had seen in the dream. I would like to know if there is any significance in this dream. I wondered if the purpose of it was to inspire me to write this story (which I am very proud of), or whether it has a deeper meaning. It still nags at me. It doesn't seem finished with.
Dear
Dreamer,
The dream
is obviously past-life in nature. If you would like to read more about
how past-life images impact on present-day experiences, let me recommend
the book Children's Past Lives, by Carol Bowman.
Just so you know, individuals do not simply dream about past lives without
reason; generally, the dreams are connected to experiences and events
occurring in the present. For most people, past-life dreams occur when
something in the present is similar to something that occurred in the
soul's past - the process essentially entails the unconscious mind of
the dreamer looking for a past-life experience to bring to the dreamer's
awareness the fact that something that once occurred is occurring again.
That something can relate to a similar thematic experience, a similar
event, or even reconnecting with the same people from the past. Depending
on how old you are and your life experiences, I would say that the dream
is either suggesting that you have recently reconnected in the present
with the male companion from the past, or that the event you see thematically
depicted in the dream (e.g. starting over after some kind of horrible
loss) is thematically similar to something going on in your life right
now. I hope that helps. –
Here's
my dream... For years I have been dreaming of drowning, being under
water and not able to reach the surface. Over the last
few years the dreams have become more intense. Sometimes I
dream I am out on the ocean and a storm will come up, sometimes
I die, sometimes I wake up. Recently my dreams are about a
ship, I am out on a ship and a storm will come up. These dreams
are very vivid, I can almost feel the water coming over the
side of the ship. Last night I dreamed I was on a ship, me
and some other woman. We were in a cabin below deck, the walls
have wood paneling on them. I looked out the window and all
I could see was green ocean, we tried to go up on the deck,
but for reason we couldn't. We stayed down in the cabin, the
water pressure was so great that the cabin filled with water
and we drowned and became two ghosts on another ship. Could
these dreams be past life memories. The Titanic went down April
14, which is my birthday. It went down of the coast of Newfoundland,
which is where I live now. It went down 1912; I dream a lot
of the number 12. If these are past-life memories, why am I
dreaming about them. Please help.
Dear Dreamer,
Yes, it's very possible that these
are past-life dreams. However, we don't simply dream about
past lives without reason - generally these dreams are
connected to something going on in the present. In other
words, the dream is about feeling emotionally overwhelmed
or trapped. What this suggests is that there is something
going on in your life right now where you may feel overwhelmed
or trapped and your subconscious mind is trying to bring
to your awareness a similar feeling from the past in
which you felt the same way. We often dream about past
lives when they are connected to events or people in
the present. In terms of dealing with past life memories,
let me recommend the book CHILDREN'S
PAST LIVES, by Carol Bowman. If not associated
with a past life, the dream could simply be about feeling
overwhelmed or trapped on your life's journey.–
Here's
my dream... I dreamt that I was a slave girl in the
1700s in the American South, and I was on a plantation. It was
scary to witness all the bad things that my "master"
did. I could not do anything about it. This dream would happen
every night. I think that this dream is my past life. I am white.
In the dream I was African. What is this about?
Dear Dreamer,
Well, obviously, the dream suggests a personal past-life memory.
However, we don't just randomly dream about past lives - those
dreams are inevitably connected to something in the present.
The dream suggests that in the present you are in a situation
in which "bad" things are happening but you feel like there
is absolutely nothing you can do to change the situation (e.g.
a bad boss, a bad relationship, a controlling situation, etc.).
Because you are currently involved in that kind of a situation,
your subconscious mind looked for a period in your soul's history
when you were experiencing the same thing. As an aside, there
are many excellent books on the subject of reincarnation that
you can find at the Edgar Cayce/A.R.E. Bookstore: www.arebookstore.com.

Here's
my dream... This is my second posting; I really need to find out what
this means. I've had this recurring dream since I was
very young, usually two or three times a year. More lately.
In the dream, I am 48-50 years old. I am on the top of
Mary's Peak (the tallest peak in the Oregon Coast Range).
The sky is blood red. There are burned bodies and screaming
people. An Indian woman is there with me. We are trying
to comfort a dying man. I actually met this woman about
20 years ago. She said, "It's you. I never want to see
you again." I haven't seen her since. I know she was the
wife of a professor. I don't like going to Mary's Peak
and haven't been there in years. I am 48 years old now
and a little freaked out
Dear Dreamer,In
all likelihood, these images are details from a past-life in
which you experienced devastation, loss, and a time when things
were totally out of control. Undoubtedly, that past-life experience
became a memory deep inside your soul related to things out
of your control and loss. With this in mind, whenever you have
experienced similar things in the present (loss and things out
of control), your subconscious mind has resurrected this "memory"
to bring to mind the fact that a similar thing was occurring
in the present. The dream is not a prediction of things to come,
nor is it about being 48. It is about loss. It is for this same
reason that you don't like going to Mary's Peak, and the woman
probably didn't like being around you. These images are associated
with a troubling time from the past. –
Here's
my dream... I have always
been drawn to Monet's works. One night I had a dream of being
home. Really "home" in a lovely white house with green shutters.
About a year later I ran across a documentary on Monet. They
showed his home in Giverny. It was the same house! I never looked
up Monet's bio or anything at all. I just remember feeling like
it was my home. Then, years later, I had another "Home" dream.
I was in a house. Very grand, but home to me. Years later, I
was watching another documentary. This one was on the Winchester
house. Same house! I even used to live in a town called Winchester.
I have never heard, seen or known about any of these things
until after my dreams. What do you think?
Dear Dreamer, Obviously, the
dreams are past life in nature. The question is whether they
are literally or metaphorically about past lives. From a metaphorical
perspective, it could suggest that because of your past-life
history, you need to focus in this life on your own creativity
and/or artistic expression. Of course, one option literally
is that you were very connected with Monet, one way or another.
One important thing to keep in mind is that we do not dream
about past lives just for the fun of it - inevitably these dreams
are always connected to something going on in the dreamer's
present. Just for background information, let me suggest that
you read the book CHILDEN'S PAST LIVES
by Carol Bowman. –
Here's my dream... You seem so good at interpreting
dreams that I wondered if you could help me. A little while
ago I wrote a short story, which won a competition. In the
story I'd described a house very vividly, and my mother
asked me what my inspiration had been. The truth is that
several years ago I had a very vivid dream, which featured
this house. It was a big villa, maybe in the south of France
(or maybe Spain), and was very dilapidated. It had orangey
plaster walls that were flaking, and peeling green shutters.
The courtyard garden was an overgrown wilderness. All the
rooms were empty and dusty: the house had been deserted
for a long time, but soldiers had moved in. They had set
up camp beds and were sleeping two or three to a room. I
dreamed that I was a sort of soldier, with a red uniform.
I and another man - who I was quite close to in the dream
- had come to the house. We walked through the rooms and
saw the soldiers dead on their beds. It was obvious they
had been relaxing, and someone had burst in and killed them.
I was furious, but we knew that this was somehow justified,
or to be expected, because we were in a war situation. We
crept from room to room looking for a hiding place, we didn't
know if the enemy was still in the building. We may have
been holding hands, or at least touching, and he was leading
me. I remember walking into a tiny narrow room (like a dressing
room) and finding a man keeled over onto his front on the
bed, dead. We looked out onto a balcony and saw soldiers
in red coats hiding amongst the overgrown plants, but we
didn't know if they were on our side. This was such a disturbing
dream at the time, and I find it strange that it stayed
in my mind for so long (I made a note of it when I first
dreamed it), and got into my writing. Incidentally, the
short story wasn't about soldiers, it was about two teenage
girls who come to stay in the house in the 1950s after their
parents divorce. This dream has been getting to me for so
long that I wondered if you could shed any light on it for
me. Thank you so much.
Dear Dreamer, All of our experiences
(in this life as well as in the past) become the substance of
our subconscious mind. This information becomes readily available
through creativity, the imagination, or whenever current events
correspond to similar events from our past (lives). With this
in mind, you are simply partially remembering a past-life experience.
This is much more common than you might think. Let me recommend
the book, CHILDREN'S PAST LIVES, by Carol
Bowman, so you can see how memory works. Another possibility
is EDGAR CAYCE ON THE AKASHIC RECORDS,
by Kevin Todeschi. –
Here's my dream - I was wondering if you could tell me if I am having a past life dream or if this dream is just something my mind is making up. This is not the only dream I have had of the past, but it's the same past. This dream has me in an 1800's dress. I am walking towards a Victorian house that sits right on the beach sand. The sun is shining bright. As I walk to the house I notice it has 3 large steps and a wrap around porch. When I walk in, the first thing I see is a large set of stairs. To the left of the stairs are bedrooms. To the right is the great room. Straight back to the right is the kitchen. I walk towards the kitchen and notice that there are numerous pictures on the walls. I don't recognize the people in the pictures but they look like they are from a past like 1700's or so. I walk to the back door in the kitchen and there are 3 single steps down the beach sand. Before I step out, I look out at the ocean. As far as I can see up and side-to-side is a big wall of water. I try to run to the front door. All of a sudden I hear a loud crash and feel water rising up to my chest. I am frantically trying to get away. I see my lips moving real slow, "Help Me please!" The dream then takes me to the top of a hill and I see a sign that says Providence Road. I feel in this dream this is where I used to live. I feel that this dream is telling me something of a past I can't remember - to this day I am terrified to venture out into the ocean. I don't go to the beach and believe it or not I am only 30 minute away from it. I keep having this dream and I try to focus on something in the dream that I will remember when I wake up. The last item was the road sign. I always feel worried when I wake up. Can you please shed some light on this and how I can help myself in this dream? Thank you very much. –
Dear Dreamer,
The dream has all of the elements of a past-life dream. However, the reason you are having it now is because the dream probably has a connection to something occurring in your life right now. For example, if you drowned in a past-life, that experience left your subconscious mind with an awareness of what it felt like when things were totally out of your control. With this in mind, perhaps something is going on in your current life right in which you feel as though things are out of control, and your subconscious mind is trying to bring to your awareness a similar feeling from the past. Another possibility is that some of the people from this past experience may be returning to your life in the present. If you want to read more about how past-life memories can affect the present, let me recommend the book, Children's Past Lives by Carol Bowman. –
Here's my dream - I dreamt that I was with a very wise being like a
teacher and that I had a Scarab (Egyptian Beetle) in my chest. The
feeling that I had was that it was alive and I had a very full feeling
in my chest. The wise being told me it was all right and then he just
said to me, “past lives.” Recently I have been meditating
everyday for 10-15 minutes and asking to be guided to my purpose in
life. Maybe that has something to do with my dream. What do you think?
Dear Dreamer,
Essentially past-life dreams have a bearing on the present even though
their subject pertains to the past. (You may wish to see the archives
for additional examples.) In the case of your dream, as you may know
to an Egyptian a scarab is often symbolic of abundance or good luck.
Since the dream imagery shows the scarab connected to your chest area
and the level of the heart, and since you have been asking about your
life’s purpose, I think it is suggesting that your life purpose
has something to do with compassion, love, or deep understanding.
Just so you know, one of A.R.E.’s most popular programs deals
with discovering your soul’s purpose.
You might also wish to obtain the book Discovering Your Soul’s
Purpose by Mark Thurston. –
Here's my dream - I’m on the farm where I was
raised, and go check the rabbit pen. I’m dressed in a white
robe. In the rabbit hutches are different white furry animals, rabbits,
guinea pigs, ferrets, etc. I feel guilty because some have been neglected.
Some are starving and scruffy and it’s dirty underneath their
cages. This dream has reoccurred over the years, and when I wake up,
I feel like it’s a past-life thing.
Dear Dreamer,
Although the imagery might be from the resources of your subconscious
mind and deal with a past-life memory that you literally experienced,
there is a reason you are having this particular dream at various
times in the present. In other words, we generally have past-life
dreams that correspond to a similar situation in the present. With
that in mind, the dream seems to be indicating that something is going
on in your life in which you feel like you are neglecting some of
your obligations or responsibilities. If you feel like you are involved
in too many activities and somehow neglecting a part of your life
(at home, at work, or at school) that’s really what the dream
is about. –
Here's my dream - On July 3rd or
4th, around 1996(or'97), my wife dreamed about being approached by
a Black woman dressed in U.S. Civil War-ear clothes. The woman asked
my wife if she knew who was being buried today? My wife's response
was negative; she did not know. The black woman replied, "why, they
are burying Captain so-and-so today." I no longer remember the name,
though in the dream the woman gave a specific name. This dream occurred
in the afternoon. Interestingly, at approximately the same time in
Gettysburg, PA, the recently discovered remains of a Confederate soldier
were being buried. (I remember the remains were discovered in a railroad
embankment, where there was heavy fighting on the first day of battle.)
At the time of this dream we were living near Houston TX. My wife
is from the Philippines and has no interest in U.S. history; her knowledge
of our Civil War is next to zero. She has, in the past, demonstrated
an uncanny ability to see things before they happen…Having seen my
wife's ability in action I wrote a letter to the Supt. of Gettysburg
Military Park and to two national Civil War organizations and gave
them the name of this officer, in the hope they might be able to put
a name with the remains, but I did not receive a response...guess
they thought I was a crackpot. What do you guys think?
Dear Dreamer, Since we don't generally dream of the past or past lives without having
a personal emotional connection to the information. (See archives
for additional examples.) One possibility suggested by your wife's
dream is that the Black woman she saw was actually the person your
wife had been in the past - a person with intimate knowledge of the
Civil War and some of the personalities involved. Another possibility
is that the Black woman could represent her intuition and the man
that was discovered was someone your wife had been closely associated
with during the Civil War period.

Here's my dream - My
boyfriend has been having recurring dreams about a past life. In his
dreams he's in a war almost like Vietnam and he's fighting and trying
to save himself and he has a person always on his mind and when he
has these dreams he tries to see who the guy is in his dream but he
can't. He's been having this dream for about a month now and sometimes
in his dreams he gets hurt and when he wakes up his body hurts him
where he got hurt in the dream. He's a little scared about it because
we know some people can die in their dreams and he just wants to know
what's going on. If you could tell us why he's having these dreams
and if they mean anything we would really appreciate it.
Dear Dreamer,
First of all, let me assure you that people do not die because of
having a dream. We also don't generally dream about past lives for
no reason - there is usually a present-day reason why we're tuning
into the past. With this in mind, the dream suggests that your boyfriend
is having similar feelings in the present of being in danger or out
of control or having a great deal of worry/stress about his future.
If this is happening, then his subconscious mind is looking for a
symbolic image in his soul memory that corresponds to what he is feeling
in the present. If this is not the case and the dreams just started
occurring, then it suggests that he has become open somehow to these
memories (a fall, an injury to the spine, extreme stress, etc.) and
he may need to see a chiropractor to make sure his spine is in alignment
or work with things he can do to alleviate his stress. Since he is
having physical pain, he may also wish to see a hypnotherapist who
could regress him to the incident and enable him to witness it from
the vantage point of the present and heal any unresolved issues that
still remain. –
Here's my dream - I
dreamt that I was walking with Jesus Christ when he had to carry the
cross and was crucified. In my dream I was pushed along with the crowd
by men on horseback. A soldier was trying to force me to physically
hurt Jesus while he walked carrying the cross. I refused to hurt Jesus
and the soldier beat me. I watched Jesus as he was crucified. There
was nothing I could do to stop the torture. The dream was very vivid:
screaming, crying, the smell of blood. This was a nightmare. I awoke
very shaken and afraid.
Dear Dreamer,From a literal perspective, the dream could be a portion of a past-life
memory, suggesting that you had an incarnation at the time of Jesus.
Generally, however, individuals do not have random past-life memories
for no reason. In other words, there is a present-day reason why you
would be having this past-life dream right now. That leads to a metaphorical
(symbolical) interpretation, suggesting that something may be going
on in your that feels like a "crucifixion"-challenges or personal
"crosses" that you or someone close to you may be having to deal with.

Here's my dream - Since adolescence I have had a recurring dream.
I am standing on the bank of a large river, which has a long expansion-type
bridge over it. I my dream I am standing very close to the water looking
down into the water. I "know" that my loved one(s) have driven off
of the bridge and are now under the water. I cannot swim, and my mother
instilled a great fear of water in me. As I peer down into the water
I "see" my younger sister inside the vehicle hitting the window with
her fist and reaching out to me. I cannot reach her, and sometimes
I wake sweaty and screaming. This dream might not seem so bizarre
but for one fact. My sister has the same dream, except it is I who
is under the water. The dream has reoccurred several times in both
our lives. I've not been able to associate the occurrence of the dreams
with any particular events in time and neither has she. Now I am 40,
and she is 34. Neither of us has had the dream in awhile, but it still
haunts me. What could it mean??
Dear Dreamer,
The dream is suggestive of past-life imagery (when perhaps you and
your sister were together and met a similar fate), however, it needs
to have a present-day reason for occurring. One possible theme suggested
by the dream is being overwhelmed by some experience over which you
have no control nor can you escape. Water can often be symbolic of
emotions, so this would be a very emotional experience. Since "family"
is a predominant symbol in the dream, the experience probably entails
family members. In other words, whenever you or your sister are having
an overwhelming emotional experience that cannot be escaped and/or
controlled, your subconscious mind may look for a similar thematic
image from your respective soul's history and this dream (made up
of past-life memory fragments you share) resurfaces. –
Here's my dream - I
remember being on a battlefield being circled by my men. We were fighting
various tribes of Mongols and we were fighting with swords and such.
Then I remember floating above my body and looking down at my men
trying to revive me. I was sliced across the stomach and dying. My
men were very sad, like I was a great leader of these Mongol men.
I knew that I was dying in that moment, yet felt no pain from the
wound. I thought it was a very strange dream, as I've never dreamt
about that time in history or even was very interested in that time.
Also, I thought it was strange to dream about a war of that magnitude
when I am a woman in this lifetime.
Dear Dreamer,
Certainly the imagery is suggestive of a past-life experience. However,
we don't generally just dream about past lives for no reason. The
dream suggests that there is a similar present-day thematic experience
that you are encountering and that is why these images have resurfaced
from your subconscious mind as a dream. With this in mind, the dream
suggests that something is coming to an end in your life right now
or that some aspect of your life appears totally out of control. It
is the theme of death and lack of control that seems evident in the
dream and therefore probably has some bearing on your present-day
experiences. –
Here's my dream
- I've
had a recurring dream for over forty years, and would appreciate your
interpretation. I'm terrified, running down a cobbled lane toward
a castle gatehouse, and I'm being pursued by a group of men. There
are stairways on both sides of the inside wall of the gatehouse which
lead to a walkway above. I hoist up my skirts and take the stairs
on the left, and when I reach the walkway above, begin to cross to
the other side, over the cobbled lane. I hear footsteps of pursuers
behind me, and when I get to the middle of the walkway, see men also
coming toward me from the other stairway. At that point, I climb onto
the short wall and leap to my death below. I see blood pooling onto
the cobbles, and watch as the men prod my dead body with their feet.
Is this a past life experience?
Dear Dreamer,
Obviously a dream of this nature could be a past-life dream. However,
we generally do not randomly dream about past lives without a reason.
Oftentimes, when we are facing experiences in the present that we
are challenged by, the mind looks for an image from the past that
thematically corresponds with what is happening to us in the present.
Therefore, the dream (which may literally be about a past life) is
suggestive of personal fear or encountering an experience in which
you are overpowered and have no control. The dream may be happening
whenever you are experiencing such things as fear about something
you cannot get out of or loss of control. If this is the case, your
mind simply looks for a period in your soul's history when that was
also your experience. In other words, past-life dreams generally occur
for a present-day reason. –
Here's my dream - I
have had a recurring dream for about 10 years. In this dream I am
in a temple that looks Egyptian. A goddess who I take to be Isis is
on an altar in silver dress. A man's voice calls me into the temple,
and two young girls have silver trays with objects on them. A man
who I cannot see tells me I have earned these objects and he announces
them-the necklace of Isis, the necklace of Ra, and the necklace of
the golden key. I have never heard of these objects, yet they are
placed about my neck in a great ceremony. I am then asked if I am
ready to accept the responsibility of these objects and do what I
have promised to do. I awake from this dream feeling anxious and I
feel as if I am missing an opportunity but I can never figure out
what it is. I have tried to find out if the objects I dream about
exist but have had no luck. Can you help?
Dear Dreamer,
Although a dream of this nature could suggest past-life implications,
more than that the dream suggests that there is something that you
feel the need to accomplish in life. This something is part of your
soul heritage and could have something to do with transformation and
spirituality. The dream is trying to say that you have both the ability
(the key) and the will (the necklaces) to make this happen but for
some reason you may be feeling anxious about whether or not you should
pursue this direction and have yet to totally follow-through on the
opportunity. You might ask yourself, is there something I'm being
called to do with healing, spirituality, personal transformation,
communicating with the Divine, etc., that I keep putting off? –
