Here's my dream - I am writing this for my 11-year-old
daughter. She has had a recurring dream for the last 2 two weeks.
It is always at night, she sees smoke in the hallway outside
her bedroom door. Her heart starts to race and she becomes very
bodily heated. She gets up, walks towards the living room and
sees FIRE! As she runs back into our room to wake us she wakes
up. Once she is awake she wakes me up and is crying and very
shaken.
Dear
Dreamer,
If the dream is literal, it suggests that there may be some kind
of danger with fire in the house - such as an electrical problem.
You may need to call an electrician just to check it out, especially
if you have had electrical problems, shortages and/or overheating.
That said, a metaphorical interpretation might suggest that your daughter
is aware of anger and unspoken tension in the household that is threatening
to destroy her security (e.g. arguments between parents). Another
possibility is that she is suppressing some kind of anger within herself.
I hope this helps. –
Here's my dream - I
am from the United Kingdom. For years now I have had recurring dreams
of being on the toilet and people watching me. Whether it be a gap
in the door or just the door open or even just crouched behind somewhere.
Please help! Am I insane or is this a common dream? Would really appreciate
some advice as it’s beginning to worry me. Thank you. –
Dear Dreamer,
The dream is fairly common. Most often a bathroom is symbolic
of things that need to be eliminated. However, a bathroom can also
be associated with personal privacy. From the imagery in the dream
it suggests that you often feel under personal scrutiny and don’t
feel like you have enough time for personal privacy. An alternative
interpretation could be that part of you desires to eliminate something
from your life but you haven’t found a way to do it that makes
you feel comfortable. –
Here's my dream - I dreamt about a bathtub filling up with dirty water
– kind of a bluish-grey, not like bath water after a bath. I
was standing a couple of feet away from tub. It filled so fast that
I opened my apartment door and the water just flowed out after spilling
a little on the bathroom floor. Then I woke up.
Dear Dreamer,
The dream has at least a couple of
possibilities. On one hand, it suggests that you might be holding
on to some kind of emotional feelings that need to really be released
and dealt with. Another possibility is that the dream has to do with
some kind of spiritual confusion or questioning that you may be going
through at this point in your life. In the first instance, the dream
might indicate that feelings have been repressed and they are near
overflowing. If this is the case, then it suggests the need for some
kind of emotional release and cleansing on your part. Perhaps this
would entail opening up and discussing your feelings with others (e.g.
opening the door to your apartment in the dream). In the second possibility,
it might be suggesting that a recent interest in spirituality is welling
up inside of you and this has created some confusion (the color gray)
and the need to somehow open up and discuss what you have been processing
inside of yourself. –
Here's my dream - I have this similar type of dream all the time. We
are in a hotel, but our room is not “secure.” There are
openings to other people’s rooms and there is no way to be private
in the room. We had been driving really late and this was the only
hotel we could find and it was really cheap – $22 a night and
wasn’t very nice. We were unable to sleep because our beds turned
into tables in a bar and there were people everywhere. Also, the bathroom
was very dirty and unusable.
Dear Dreamer,
In all likelihood, the dream either
suggests that you don’t feel like you have any privacy in your
current living situation or it suggests that because your life is
so hectic you may not feel that you have enough time for your self.
Both interpretations could also be correct. Generally, a hotel room
can be viewed as a “temporary situation.” In addition,
the fact that your room is open to others is suggestive of the need
for personal privacy. The imagery in which you find your bed in the
middle of a barroom can suggest the fact that there is too much activity
occurring. Depending on your lifestyle, it might also suggest that
you may need to party less and sleep more. The bathroom being dirty
and unusable can often be associated with the need to eliminate something
from your life – physically (such as literal eliminations) or
emotionally (as in the need to “get something off your chest).
Finally, the room being cheap may indicate that you feel like you
need and/or deserve a better situation than you are currently experiencing. –
Here's my dream - I am constantly having dreams about needing to use the bathroom but
I can never find any privacy. I always find a bathroom but it is either
out in the open, there is a window where people can see me, or there
is nothing but a curtain in front of me where it continuously blows
open so I am exposed. There are always people in these dreams who
are watching me. They are both male and female. This has been going
on for years and it is driving me nuts! I am also always dreaming
of water, usually I am traveling on it. I also keep seeing the same
places over and over again, a white clapboard house, a downtown area
I don't recognize and a flying dream where I am looking down at a
rugged coastline. I have also been having these same dreams for years.
Thank you for your help!
Dear Dreamer,Sometimes individuals
dream about needing to go to the bathroom and awaken to find that
they really need to go to the bathroom – in this case the dream
is simply a literal dream. On other occasions, however, dreaming about
needing to go to the bathroom and being unable to find a suitable
location to do it, often suggests that the individual wants to “eliminate”
something but has been unable to find a proper way to do it. For example,
since you have had this dream for years it may suggest that you often
have the desire to tell someone something that is bothering you but
you are never quite sure how to say it privately and appropriately.
Another possibility might be that whenever this dream occurs you want
to eliminate something from your life (e.g. a bad habit, an irritating
job, etc.) but haven’t been able to figure out how. In brief,
dreams about traveling over water are often associated with an individual’s
personal, spiritual journey. If you want to learn how to work with
your dreams for your self, I would recommend the following books:
The Mystical, Magical, Marvelous World of Dreams, by Wilda Tanner;
or, Dream Interpretation (and more!) Made Easy, by Kevin J. Todeschi. –
Here's my dream - I am having this dream quite often, lately every night.
I am looking for a place to go to the bathroom. If I find a place,
it is either toilets that I can’t use (because they really aren’t
toilets) or I have to do my business in front of every body. No privacy.
Sometimes I will dream that I have to have a bowel movement and I’m
having a hard time getting it out. I’m more concerned about
the first part of this dream because like I said, I’m having
it every night.
Dear Dreamer,
Oftentimes this type of
a dream is associated with an individual really having to go to the
bathroom when he or she awakens. However, the way you’ve described
this particular repetitive dream suggests that in waking life you
may be trying to eliminate something or to release something from
yourself but have yet to find a way to do it appropriately. In other
words, if you have pent up frustrations about someone or something
at work or at home and you have been trying to deal with those feelings,
this might be the reason you have been experiencing the recurring
dreams. If this is the case, the dream is suggesting that you need
to find an appropriate way to express yourself in the situation, in
spite of the fact that you are “having a hard time getting it
out. –
Here's my dream - I broke up with my boyfriend after a huge
fight three months ago and after a few days felt it was a big mistake.
I have tried to get back together with him and have not been successful.
I have had a few dreams where he is present in my dream but being
more attentive to people (who are mutual friends of ours in real
life); and I have had one dream recently where we actually got back
together. In every dream I have had in the past week or so, there
has been a few recurring symbols: either being in a or looking for
a bathroom, a toilet and/or I was urinating in a bathroom; a car
or truck; washing and drying clothes or a Laundromat; babies or
children have been present from dream to dream also. The very last
dream I had, my family and his family (whom I am close to) were
going on a road trip. (His parents and my parents live out of state.)
In my dream, he was there but this time I was ignoring him and he
was trying to talk to me. We all were in a car and sitting at a
gas station waiting to leave and for some reason I never went on
the trip. Then I was in a house that was not mine in real life but
mine in the dream. It seemed old and a bit spooky and I was watching
a horror film on the TV. I remembered that my son was outside playing
and I went to call him and his older brother Tommy (which I only
have one son in real life and my brother’s name is Tommy)
in because it was getting dark. My son came in through an enclosed
backyard and told me that Tommy was on the next block and I was
worried at first but then realized he was older and it was okay.
I feel that these symbols in my dreams reoccur because they are
trying to tell me something.
Dear Dreamer, Overall the imagery of a bathroom, a toilet and a Laundromat can all
suggest some kind of cleansing, elimination or “clean-up”
that is occurring or needs to occur in your life. The fact that a
group of family members and others are going on a road trip that you
are not going on can suggest either a separation of life paths (e.g.
going in a different direction) or that you may not be cooperating
with or communicating/understanding something that is occurring in
the situation. Taking responsibility for a son “Tommy”
(the same name as your brother) might indicate a tendency to try and
control others as if they were children or unable to care for themselves.
The fact that Tommy is on the next block but okay could indicate your
awareness that this individual will return to you. Overall, I think
the dream is suggesting that there is personal work you might want
to take care of at this point in time and that this work (which may
be indicated in some of the dream imagery I have mentioned) is probably
necessary before contemplating any kind of long-term relationship.
I hope this helps.

Here's my dream - I
have frequent recurring dreams that involve me trying to defecate
(bowel movement). My feelings are frustration (not being able to find
a bathroom, or bathroom is occupied and I am embarrassed or mad that
someone is watching me). Frequently I search and search for a bathroom
but cannot find one that is available. Sometimes if I am able to go,
it goes all over and creates some kind of a mess. Then, I try to clean
it up and I am embarrassed or disgusted. Sorry to be so gross but
I have dreamed variations of this dream for many years. Only one or
two times did I actually, physically need to have a bowel movement
when I woke-up.
Thanks for your interpretation!
Dear Dreamer,
Whenever this dream occurs (and you don't
really have to go to the bathroom upon awakening), it could suggest
that there is something "toxic" you are trying to eliminate or something
that you're trying to say, but can't find the appropriate way or the
manner to do so. In other words, if someone has been frustrating you
and you have not found the words to tell that individual, the dream
is suggesting you are building up these toxins within yourself that
need to find a proper outlet. In the case where a big "mess" is made,
it might suggest that whenever you have spoken up or expressed your
frustration about something, you felt like you ended up making a bigger
mess. If this is the case, the dream is suggesting that you need to
find a way to get your feelings expressed in a productive manner and
not hold things in for such a long period of time. –
Here's my dream - A
repetitive dream I've had (at least once a week for over 20 years)
is this: I am in some public building and am looking for the ladies
restroom. When I get there, there are many toilet stalls, mostly
with broken toilets that won't flush and/or are dirty and overflowing.
If I happen to find one that is clean and in working order, there
is no door for privacy. Usually there are also some women around,
too, so I still can't use the toilet privately. I have always had
good health and no problems with elimination, so I wonder what this
can mean? (I have also recently found out that one of my female
friends has also had such a recurring dream for a number of years!)
Many thanks for considering this dream.
Dear Dreamer,
There
are at least two distinct possibilities. The first has to do with
the fact that very often in a dream we have dreams that correspond
to physiological sensations. For example, very often people dream
that they have to use a restroom, only to awaken and discover that
they literally have to use the restroom. Because we have been taught
that it is only appropriate to go to the bathroom in certain places,
the dream imagery shows the dreamer inappropriate places because
it would certainly be inappropriate to go while asleep. On the other
hand, if an individual has a dream like this and awakens and does
not necessarily have to use the restroom, the dream is suggesting
that the dreamer is trying to "eliminate" something from her or
his life (a thought, a frustration, a feeling, etc.) and has been
unable to find an appropriate way of doing so. In other words, the
dream could be about holding something in that the individual really
needs to try and release. –
