Headache Relief
Headache is one of the most common problems
observed in clinical practice accounting for about eighty million doctor
appointments each year in the United States. The causes of headache can
be complex. Headaches are often produced by a mixture of factors
including: heredity, psychosocial stressors, lifestyle choices, environmental
toxins, posture, injuries, and medical conditions. This article discusses
alternative therapies for headache including some common suggestions for
headache relief from the Edgar Cayce readings.

Blueberry Surprise
Recent research indicates that blueberries
are loaded with nutrients that can prevent cancer and slow down the aging
process.. The healing properties of blueberries are probably derived
from their high concentration of beneficial antioxidants. Dark-colored
fruits and vegetables tend to have the most vitamins and minerals.
Edgar Cayce predicted great things for this little berry and now science
has confirmed Cayce forecast.

Science and the Soul - Part II:
Glands as Spiritual Centers
The Edgar Cayce readings identify the glandular
system as a primary component of the body-soul connection. When discussing
glands in this capacity, Cayce regarded them as transducers of the Creative
Energy that we call God. In this article we cover a lot of physiological
territory ranging from stem cells, cellular division (mitosis and miosis),
and the spiritual big bang that started it all. Glands as spiritual
centers is the theme that ties it all together. |

Neuroanatomy of the Placebo Effect
Researchers at the University of Texas at
San Antonio measured changes in the way the brain burns sugar as a fuel
(glucose metabolism) in a group of depressed patients receiving a standard
antidepressant medication (fluoxetine) and placebo treatment in a six-week,
double blind trial. The results indicate that placebo treatment affects
many of the same areas of the brain as antidepressant medication. The biological
changes in the brain appear to correlate with clinical improvement which
is commonly recorded for placebo treatments for depression.

Gardening for Health
A reader relates her memories of World War
II and Victory Gardens. She notes that the readings gave good advice
(in this instance on gardening) for that particular time of our national
need. I responded by supporting her idea that the historical context
of the Cayce readings is extremely important. I also pointed out
that things haven't changed all that much in many respects and Cayce's
advice on gardening still makes sense. D. M.
