The C.A.R.E. Model of Harold Reilly
Harold Reilly was a physiotherapist who received
many referrals from Edgar Cayce. Based on his understanding of Cayce’s
philosophy of healing, Reilly condensed Cayce’s approach into four primary
concepts represented by the term C.A.R.E.
C = Circulation
A = Assimilation
R = Relaxation E
= Elimination
CIRCULATION
-
Why?: Increasing or "normalizing" circulation ensures proper functioning
of body organs and systems; brings fresh nutrients into cells, fresh oxygen
for proper metabolism and cleansing, fresh blood with its various system
cleansers and guardians (e.g. red & white blood cells); carries off
toxic debris, metabolic waste by-products ("ash," "dross," "stagnancy").
Lymph carries toxicity away; if lymph, is toxic, blood is toxic; lymph
is everywhere in the body.
-
What to do: Massage, exercise of any kind (the one you do is best!), deep
breathing, hydrotherapies (e.g. saunas, steam baths, hot/cold showers or
baths, fume baths, Epsom salts baths, sitz baths), infra-red lamps, heating
pads, salt rubs, liniments.
ASSIMILATION
-
Why?: Digestion is the beginning of the replenishment process and begins
in the mouth with secretions of proper chemical combinations (in both the
mouth and stomach). Chew food thoroughly, grinding and pulverizing
it - even water, according to Cayce. Assimilation proper takes place
in the small intestine, a 30' chemical processing plant. If the body
can't properly assimilate, you die... no matter how good the food quality!
Assimilation is the absorption of nutrients, sending them off to various
organs for use or storage.
-
What to do: Don't argue at meals. Eat slowly. Avoid liquids
with meals. Use proper food combining. Also helpful: digestive
enzymes, 3-day apple diet, Formula 208 (Heritage Store), ragweed tonics,
C.O.P., olive oil (1/4 - ½ tsp. before meals), oyster shell calcium,
digestive aids containing pepsin, pancreatin and ox bile extract.
Massage aids the digestive, assimilation process by helping keep the organs
involved properly stimulated.
RELAXATION
-
Why?: Allows the body to normalize, to reach homeostasis (or balance),
to rebuild itself; lets the mind relax too. Can take may forms, physical
and non-physical.
-
What to do: Massage, walking, meditation, naps, daydreaming, listening
to music, guided imagery, subliminal tapes, self hypnosis, deliberate relaxation
techniques, sports, hobbies, theater, TV, yoga, Tai Chi, stretching, hot
tubs, saunas, enough sleep, breaks during the work day, deep breathing,
etc. PLAY.
ELIMINATION
-
Why?: To remove "dross" or "ash," by-products of the metabolic process
of cells. When energy is burned, when tissue is replaced, a residue
is left; when food is digested or breathing (air exchange) occurs, etc.
Also helps remove pollutants, chemicals, toxins introduced by air, water,
food, drugs, into the body. Various organs are involved: lungs, kidneys,
skin (the largest organ of elimination), colon (large intestine, lymph,
blood.
-
What to do: Massage, sweating, colonics, deep breathing, castor oil packs,
plenty of water, exercise, proper diet, fasting (Cayce had a unique take
on this), monodiets (3-day apple, 4-day grape or 5-day orange - followed
by olive oil), use of lactobacillus cultures.
The bottom line: COORDINATION
In a nutshell, Cayce counseled us to strive for balance,
attunement, cooperation among the various body systems. And most
especially, keep in harmony with your spiritual ideal!
