Skin Deep
The expression “skin deep” is typically
used to convey a sense of shallowness and superficiality (as in “beauty
is only skin deep”). The latest medical research and clinical applications
may require us to rethink our use of this term. The increasing use
of transdermal patches to deliver medicine and the recognition that the
skin is much more intimately associated with our deepest physiological
processes of assimilation and elimination suggests a different view of
the skin. Health is skin deep, too! |
Castor Oil Packs
For most doctors and laypeople of a previous
generation, castor oil has been relegated to the role of a severe, outdated,
foul-tasting laxative that is best forgotten. An appreciation of
the transdermal potential of this amazing oil is practically nil outside
the community of alternative medicine experts. Yet there is abundant
anecdotal evidence for the therapeutic potential of castor oil packs for
conditions ranging from hyperactivity to liver disease. The latest
research on the absorption of castor oil through the skin is also discussed
in this article. |
