Reading Excerpts on Vitamin D

[Note: Here are few selected Cayce reading excerpts that discuss the role of vitamin D in the physiology of the body.]

GC:  You will have before you the body and enquiring mind of [658], present in this room, regarding the dream she had concerning the Vitamin D. Bond Bread Contest.  You will answer the questions as I ask them regarding this:
EC:  We have the body, the enquiring mind, [658] and the dream regarding Vitamin D. Bond Bread.  Ready for questions.
(Q)  How much bread is it necessary for a child four years old to eat a day to obtain the correct amount of Vitamin D.?
(A)  This, to be sure, depends upon the activities of the body, that which is lacking in its system, and what character of foods other than bread, if any, are taken.  Ordinarily, six ounces is sufficient.
(Q)  What highest authorities absolutely guarantee to my family that every sunshine vitamin D claim made for Bond Bread is absolutely true?
(A)  Scientific research; notably Paediatric Foundation, supplemented by Steenbock patents.
(Q)  What changes in civilization cause us to be unlikely to get enough sunshine vitamin D as nature originally intended?
(A)  The tendency to have less sunshine activity, or less activity in the sunshine, and the taking of more foods that are not close to nature.
(Q)  Why does my table provide plenty of all other vitamins, yet fail to provide enough vitamin D unless Bond Bread is used?
(A)  Sufficient vitamins are found in the green vegetables that may be easily procured, but these lack that necessary sunshine vitamin D in their preparation or make-up; that is provided more safely, more certainly, in Bond Bread.
(Q) Why do the members of my family absolutely need a constant and plentiful supply of sunshine vitamin D., especially right now?
(A)  The lack of sunshine at the present season, the necessity for the structural portions or frame portions of the body.  These add, or this vitamin adds, to that necessary element in the structural building of the body that is lacking when sunshine is not as plentiful, as at the present season.
(Q)  How does sunshine vitamin D help insure better teeth, stronger bones, and the general well being of my family?
(A)  Adding those necessary elements for the building, especially, of those structural portions of the body.
(Q)  Why do the children of my family, especially, need sunshine Vitamin D, such as Bond Bread now provides?
(A)  The natural development in children is growth, particularly in their developing years of the structural portions of the body.  This being necessary, then it is necessary that they retain or have more of this vitamin at this particular period of their development.
(Q)  Why do older members of my family also need this vital food element that Bond Bread now adds?
(A)  As in the structural portions, or portions of bone itself is created the necessary elements to supply that that makes for assimilation and eliminations in the blood's activity through the body, the older members necessarily need this vitamin also.
(Q)  Apart from this vitamin D value, what are the three main reasons why my family has decided to use Bond Bread?
(A)  For its practicability; for its utility, and for its accessibility.
(Q)  Any other information regarding this that would be helpful?
(A)  Much might be given regarding D.  These are the questions.  Use these.  (658-11)

In the matter of the quantity of foods as fed the body, these may be changed from time to time - but not too much of same given.  Those in the cereals that are of the cooked are much better, as well as the egg - preferably only the yolk, though occasionally there may be the whole egg, provided same is coddled or prepared so that all the properties in same act with the general forces of the system; but the yolk preferably should be prepared or used for feeding.  In the cereals, those of oaten, those of the whole wheat, that carries a great deal of the gluten; especially that that carries the vitamins that make for the building of the proper amount of calcium and the like, or Vitamin D in the system, which will be found to be included in those that are well balanced in the sunshine - and keep the body in the sunshine; not so that there is injury to the body, but sufficient that all of the respiratory system and the capillary circulation is affected by the rays of the sun.  At least some portion each day when same may be had.  These will keep an even balance of the vitamins through the system….
(Q)  Is body getting enough Vitamin "D" to build strong bones and teeth?
(A)  There are the suggestions that there be added the sunshine, or the nude baths in sun, and some little more portions of those cereals that carry same, so that this is well balanced.  It is well, with the developments that are beginning (and apparent), that a little more - not an excess - be added.  Sun baths of one to two hours each day – divided up, not all at once - would be found to be helpful, as would a change in the oaten to the whole wheat and to the rye cereals which, with their perfect preparations, carry more Vitamin D in the system.  As well as the lime, with the milk in nursing - these will add to the system the proper amount.  We do not want to OVER balance, or to cause an extraordinary growth to any glands that would tend to make for extremes in the developing body.  These added in over abundance aid, or add to, those glands that produce UNUSUAL activities in these directions.  (299-2)

In the middle of November we would begin with ADIRON.  This adds Vitamin D, as well as all of the vitamins in Cod-Liver Oil and iron - and will be easily assimilated.  (1521-5)
