The A.R.E. Library - Virginia Beach
Library Services | Library Hours | Back

The Edgar Cayce A.R.E. Library stands as a living memorial to the life and work of Edgar Cayce, whose more than 14,000 psychic readings form the core of the collection. In addition to the Cayce readings, the Library houses one of the largest collections in the world - 65,000 volumes - specializing in the fields of metaphysics, parapsychology, comparative religious studies, holistic health and ancient civilizations. Today the Library serves the general public as well as enthusiasts of the Edgar Cayce information. Although A.R.E. members are frequent visitors to the library, the Library is also open to the public and is visited by a variety of researchers, students, vacationers and individuals seeking additional information on a wide range of topics.

The Edgar Cayce Library houses the largest repository of metaphysical books, videos, and audiotapes in North America and some of the largest collections in the world, including the Edgerton Sykes collection (Atlantis), the Andrew Jackson Davis collections (Psychic experiences), as well as verbatim copies of the complete Edgar Cayce readings. The Library houses 65,000 volumes, offers a variety of reference materials, and holds many foreign language editions of Edgar Cayce books.

The Library also serves students of Atlantic University, the Cayce/Reilly School of Massotherapy, and the Edgar Cayce Institute of Intuitive Studies - all affiliates of the Edgar Cayce work. One benefit of A.R.E. membership is that A.R.E. members from anywhere in the world may borrow books in person or through the mail.
Vision of the Library

To provide library service, enhance spiritual community, strengthen connectedness within the Association, foster personal growth, encourage "the love of God and man," and promote the oneness of all life in the experience of those who seek greater consciousness. All knowledge is to be used in the manner that will give help and assistance to others, and the desire is that the laws of the Creator be manifested in the physical world. - Edgar Cayce

Purpose of the Library

The purpose of the A.R.E. Library is completely intertwined with that of the Cayce organizations:
Click for a LARGE view of poster"The purpose, then, of the Association: The institution [is to be] builded around that of a place where the records of that accomplished through these sources are kept, and others of similar nature, or of the various philosophies that may be found that will coordinate-and combined in that oneness of purpose to bring the better understanding of the purpose in life, and thus enable man to realize the closer association with the divine. In the lecture room and the library-members, then, having access to such, gain better in the understanding of such, and the library may be made circulating, or a repository-as it will become-to all those who seek to see their theory disseminated. Hence this would become as the clearing house of such." (Edgar Cayce reading #254-37)
