The library loans books to A.R.E. members, Cayce/Reilly School students, Atlantic University students, A.R.E. staff, volunteers, and Hampton Roads residents ($25 members). Locally, the loan time is one month—otherwise, two or three months, depending upon mailing distance from A.R.E. The library mails books to members who request them:
- Four books or fewer
- Postage and handling: $2.00 per book
- Member pays return postage library rate
- Loans may be extended by telephone or letter for one month
- Overdues are 10¢ per day
The library also loans circulating files over the counter.

An IBM-compatible electronic card catalog of the library’s entire circulating collection is available on a set of diskettes for $12.44 (Plus Va. tax when applicable=$13.00) plus $1.50 (shipping and handling). The catalog is updated twice a year. Updates cost $6.00. The Windows version of the Edgar Cayce Readings on CD-ROM is available in the library for hands-on use by patrons. Printed copies of readings cost 20¢ per page. The library will provide computer-generated bibliographies on specific subjects from the General Book Collection for $1.00 plus 25¢ per page. (Each page contains up to thirteen citations.) Librarians greet visitors and give brief orientation tours, pointing out important characteristics of the collection and how to use special indexes to locate information. Special Collections include the Egerton Sykes Collection on Atlantis; the Andrew Jackson Davis collection of his philosophical writings; a Reference Collection of encyclopedias, dictionaries, handbooks, and compendia; a Reserve Collection of out-of-print books, first editions, and autographed copies; and a Foreign Books Collection with twenty languages represented. Library Technical Services acquires new material from publishers, donors, A.R.E. Bookstore, and A.R.E. Press. Books are cataloged under the Dewey Decimal System. Access is provided by a divided card catalog—author/title, and subject—and a computerized catalog.
