A.R.E. VOLUNTEERS AND "ACTIVE STATUS"
Handbook Contents

A new volunteer does not have to have “Active Status” in order to work at the A.R.E. Brand new volunteers begin to work at zero hours. “Active Status”, is achieved by a volunteer only after 72 hours of service have been given to the A.R.E.

Volunteer service hours are recorded in the “Volunteer Log Book” by volunteers, and those hours are then recorded by staff on “Pink Sheets” or e-mail which are submitted to the Volunteer Program Office by the 25th day of each month. The hours are entered into the Volunteer Program Data Base.

The H.Q. Volunteer Program provides 2 monthly reports, one based on 72 hours of service and another based on 36 hours of service within the last 12 months. These reports list the volunteer names and their hours. The reports are distributed monthly to all areas within the A.R.E. presently extending perks to volunteers for the purpose of verification only.

All the names of volunteers registered with the H.Q. Volunteer Program DO NOT appear on the two reports. The “Active Status” report based on 72 hours of service (aka Level 2) is the only list the Conference Registrar and Conference Registration Staff assigned to conduct registration of conferees should use in order to extend “Active Status” volunteers their conference discount.

The Conference perk does not apply to “Basic” volunteers (also known as Level 1) who have given 71 hours of service or less to the A.R.E.

"The Headquarters Volunteer Program” is made up of two smaller programs:
The In-House Program
Its purpose is to provide the organization with volunteer support in order to help the staff members achieve their goals. A large portion of this work is accomplished in the A.R.E. Volunteer Workroom.

The Outreach program
Its purpose is to connect with people outside of the A.R.E. community by partnering in service and friendship.
