Edgar Cayce’s Life Soon to Be a Musical

Virginia Beach, Va. – Move over, Hamilton! The life, times, and contributions of Edgar Cayce will soon be conceived in musical form, thanks to a recent commission by the Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.) with Broadway talents Michael Cooper and Anton Dudley.

Playwright and director Anton Dudley and composer and songwriter Michael Cooper will co-create the new Cayce-inspired musical to debut in 2020 at Zeiders American Dream Theater in Virginia Beach, Va.

This work will mark the second collaboration of Michael, Anton, and the Z, following the 2017 premiere of the musical Second to Nun. Artistic director Barton Kuebler is eager to continue their work together, saying “Michael and Anton blazed a new path with Second to Nun by creating a one-woman musical, something so rare as to be thought impossible. Their feel for story and respect for history permeates their work, and I can’t wait to see this incarnation of Cayce.”

Edgar Cayce’s A.R.E. executive director and CEO Kevin J. Todeschi is grateful for the opportunity to share Cayce’s story in the musical medium. “I am excited about the Cooper-Dudley musical, because I think it will acquaint a whole new audience with the life and work of this incredible man. It is my hope that those who are introduced to this work will be as profoundly touched by it as I was when I first learned about Edgar Cayce,” Todeschi said.

Edgar Cayce founded the non-profit Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.) in 1931, to explore spirituality, holistic health, intuition, dream interpretation, psychic development, reincarnation, and ancient mysteries—all subjects that frequently came up in the more than 14,000 documented psychic readings given by Cayce, who died in 1945. The mission of A.R.E. is simply to create opportunities for profound personal change in body, mind, and spirit through the wisdom found in the Edgar Cayce material.. The Virginia Beach headquarters is a popular site for locals and tourists with free daily lectures, a Health Center & Spa, the Cayce/Reilly® School of Massage, an extensive metaphysical library, a meditation garden, a stone labyrinth, and a bookstore and gift shop. The campus is also home to Atlantic University which offers two masters degrees (Transpersonal Psychology and Mindful Leadership) through an online platform, as well as continuing education and certificate programs. Through A.R.E.’s many programs, services, publications, and membership outreach, individuals from all walks of life and religious backgrounds are provided with tools for personal transformation and healing at all levels.
