Edgar Cayce’s A.R.E. Loans Original Artwork to Baltimore Museum

Ingo Swann Painting, Aura Chart, Showcased in Special Exhibit

Virginia Beach, Va. – The Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.) will loan the original painting  Aura Chart by artist, celebrated remote viewer and psychic spy Ingo Swann (1933-2013) to the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore, Md. The painting will leave its permanent home at A.R.E.’s Virginia Beach headquarters July 25th, and will be on loan to the Baltimore museum for a special exhibition from October 2017 through September 2018.

Aura Chart is a work like no other, and we are excited to be able to share it with the museum’s guests and visitors,” said A.R.E. Executive Director and CEO Kevin J. Todeschi. “Cayce and Swann were both visionary artists in their own mediums, and the American Visionary Art Museum is an ideal showcase for their legacies.”

During his lifetime, Swann called Edgar Cayce’s descriptions of aura charts “the nucleus of a transpersonal art form.” In several psychic readings, Cayce described an aura chart as essentially a physical manifestation and universal record of a soul’s journey through various lifetimes. Cayce asserted that symbols and images in an aura chart stir an individual’s awareness of her or his soul’s strengths, purposes, and innate weaknesses. Swann’s Aura Chart is based on Cayce’s verbatim description as to how Cayce’s own chart would appear, depicting a series of six lifetimes.

The painting graces the cover of Todeschi’s book, Edgar Cayce on Soul Symbolism. After Swann’s passing, a family member of Swann’s saw the book—and decided to bequeath the painting to the A.R.E. “So that we won’t miss the painting while it is on loan, we are hanging a full color copy in its place until the original comes home,” Todeschi said. The original painting will be on view until July 23rd at the A.R.E. Visitor Center second floor, 215 67th St, Virginia Beach, VA  23451; open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays, noon to 5 p.m.

Located in Baltimore, the American Visionary Art Museum specializes in “art produced by self-taught individuals, whose works arise from an innate personal vision." Visionary art differs from folk art in that resulting works are not of a specifically identifiable tradition. Museum Founder/Director Rebecca Hoffberger estimates the special exhibition featuring Aura Chart will enthrall approximately 125,000 visitors during its run. “We are thrilled to have this important loan and kindred collaboration.” Hoffberger said. “Our national museum is founded on the belief that intuition is the highway for the greatest manifestation of creativity—be it applied to the arts, science, medicine—and invention of all sort.”

Edgar Cayce (1877-1945) founded the non-profit Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.) in 1931, to explore spirituality, holistic health, intuition, dream interpretation, psychic development, reincarnation, and ancient mysteries—all subjects that frequently came up in the more than 14,000 documented psychic readings given by Cayce, who died in 1945. The mission of A.R.E. is to create opportunities for profound personal change in body, mind, and spirit through the wisdom found in the Edgar Cayce material. The Virginia Beach headquarters is a popular site for locals and tourists with free daily lectures, a Health Center & Spa, the Cayce/Reilly® School of Massage, an extensive metaphysical library, a meditation garden, a stone labyrinth, and a bookstore and gift shop. The campus is also home to Atlantic University which offers two masters degrees (Transpersonal Psychology and Leadership Studies) through an online platform, as well as continuing education and certificate programs. Through A.R.E.’s many programs, services, publications, and membership outreach, individuals from all walks of life and religious backgrounds are provided with tools for personal transformation and healing at all levels—body, mind, and spirit.
