It is with great sadness that -- due to ongoing concerns over the impact of COVID-19, and out of an abundance of caution to protect the health and safety of our campers, staff, and communities -- we have made the difficult decision to postpone this summer’s programming at A.R.E. Camp until 2021. We are confident that we are making the best decision to keep our community safe at this time, though we will miss all of our campers dearly! We are hoping to have some updates soon about ways we can all connect this summer and keep the spark of Camp magic glowing in each of our hearts...until we can all gather again next summer. Stay tuned! You can also stay connected with the camp community on our Facebook page, A.R.E. Camp Rural Retreat.
A.R.E. Camp offers the chance to experience a week spent entirely in nature—sleeping out under the stars, cooking meals over the fire, and seeing an abundance of Appalachian Mountain plant and animal life.
Every teenager should experience a week-long hike at least once. Hikers will incorporate the ideal of living close to nature with the opportunity to challenge perceived limitations in a close-knit and supportive group.
Each hike is individually tailored to meet the needs and experience level of the participants, and is guided by staff experienced in wilderness outings*. Campers will have the chance to learn wilderness skills, meet both physical and mental challenges, and explore the spectacular Blue Ridge Mountains.
*Attendance at Kids Camp is a pre-requisite for the Teen Blue Ridge Hike as campers will participate in planning and team-building activities with their hike leaders and fellow hikers during the session.
