A.R.E.'s Prison Outreach Program

For more than 45 years, A.R.E.'s Prison Outreach Program has provided free spiritual and uplifting books to inmates, chaplains, and prison libraries. Each year, over 10,000 adult and juvenile inmates in all 50 states are given hope, inspiration, and the ability to transform their lives one book at a time!

Impact on a Prisoner’s Life

A.R.E.’s Prison Outreach Program has a direct effect on an inmate’s life. The testimonials received on a daily basis speak for themselves, and often show dramatic transformations. Take a moment to see how reaching out to an inmate gives hope and inspiration where it is most desperately needed.

Letters from Prisoners:

"I can't even begin to describe the amount of gratitude I feel toward all of you who have made the outreach program possible.  I think it's really important for us inmates to remember that incarceration is meant to be a time for correction and growth - not punishment and resentful brooding." (P.T.)

“Thank you for sending such inspirational books! I am locked in a cell 23 hours a day alone.” (E.S.)

“The materials you sent have given me a great amount of help and direction…I have never felt more welcomed and helped.” (P.N.)

“I just finished a book called "There is A River". It was the best story I’ve ever read. I sold a bar of soap to write you. I was planning suicide today but someone slid that book under my door. God Bless You!” (K.U)

“I want you to know that I am going home…I have met ‘lifers’ who are being transformed by the knowledge (truth) you are sharing behind prison walls. Just yesterday I was talking with a ‘lifer’ and he was speaking of oneness and love and cooperating with God! I had almost given up on myself, and humanity, until I read The Search for God.” (D.M.)

“Dear Kind People, Once again from the bottom of my heart thank you. I get out of here in 24 more days. You sent me “Toward a Deeper Meditation”. I plan on re-reading it throughout my life. I hope and pray to be able to get a job and be the best citizen I can be on the other side of these fences. God bless you all. Believe me your kindness is appreciated.” (K.F)

“I’ve shared my enthusiasm for the A.R.E. and Edgar Cayce’s readings. I donate most of the books you send to our library but there are a few I just cannot bear to part with and I read those few books over and over again! Thank you for being there for me. God bless you and the work you do for people in my position.” (M.K)

“I am so thankful for your help in continuing my studies, as financially, I could not obtain the materials you have provided me with. The love that you guys have shown to me will have a trickle-down effect when I am asked to help someone.” (R.Y.)

“I’m sure Edgar Cayce would be proud and smiling now for how the A.R.E. has turned out. For that was his true dream, helping others to see the light.” (E.W.)
